Marine Support

Geowave Technology can provide for clients involved in marine support, cable laying operations or other marine activity, suitable fishing vessels to act as Chase Boats for the purpose of intercepting any approaching vessels which could damage cables being towed or installed on the seabed.

Vessels mobilized as chase boats would have ARPA radar and an array of communications equipment as standard which allows the skipper to calculate the CPA of any approaching vessel with a view on identifying at an early stage the level of protection required and possible requirement for early interception.

They are mobilized with documented Operational and HSE plans.

Operators of seismic vessels should recognize the disruption their operations create on local fishing effort. Consequently there are significant mutual benefits in using a local fishing vessel as a chase boat.

Geowave focuses as far as possible on recruiting Chase Boats that are endemic to the area of operation. Skippers of these vessels have high levels of local knowledge and expertise that Geowave believe is a crucial factor to a smooth running operation. Where that is not possible the selected chase boat will maintain strong communication links with fishing activity in the area.

For all offshore operations there is potential disruption for one or both parties. By engaging a suitable fishing vessel as a Chase boat, through the main Federation it is seen as a positive move by operators.

Such arrangements are viewed more favorably by most local skippers by the fact that;

• It provides an alternative means of income for a local vessel, easing the pressure on the skipper created by the potential disruption from the work, restricted quota allocations and ever tightening fishing restrictions.
